A Quaint Mid-Autumn Old Town Alexandria, VA Engagement Session | Northern Virginia Portrait Photographer

Often during this Old Town Alexandria, VA engagement shoot, I had to remind myself I wasn’t having deja vu…

I was elated when Allison, sister to one of my former Willow Britt brides (Lauren), reached out inquiring about how to have me photograph her wedding. Remembering her as one of the most supportive sister-maids of honor I’ve worked alongside, it was as if Allison and Jon were already inducted into the ENP Family. Now it’s their turn!

The Perfect Location for a Simple Fall Session

Allison is every bit a beauty as her sister Lauren, and the resemblance had me doing double takes at times! The familiarity only made it easier to capture her and her fiancé Jon’s engagement photos in Old Town Alexandria, VA. I greatly enjoyed getting to know them better, now as an ENP Couple in their own right, giddy about their own wedding coming in Summer 2025.

Their choice for Old Town Alexandria to be the setting for a quaint “strolling hand-in-hand” style engagement session was just perfect. We found gorgeous fall glow, tinted color on the trees, and easily dodged the {ahem} charming (?) Halloween decor that Old Town is known for each October. The result was a romantic collection of photos so perfect for Jon and Allison – depicting a quiet date night simply enjoying each other’s company. Top that off with Jack-and-Cokes at Union Street Public House, and you have the perfect celebratory end to a successful engagement session!

I often tell couples to plan an engagement session (and wedding for that matter) that reflects who they are and what they value. Not every shoot has to be awe and glamour, if that’s not true to you! Sometimes it’s the simple parks and brick-lined sidewalks that frame your love story in my imagery. Because it’s not the location that makes the photo – it’s you! And it’s my job to help that true self come out in your pictures.

TIP: Professional Modeling Experience is NEVER Required

Jon and Allison are model ENP Couples for that very reason. Of course they were amazing models for their photogenic smiles and impeccable neutral fall outfits. But they also molded right into my posing direction with ease. Like dozens of my couples, they were nervous for posing, worried about feeling or looking awkward. Would you believe that about these two judging from the images below? Getting to know you and reading your body language is my secret ingredient to achieving natural-looking photos of my couples. And it’s always a joy for me.

Jon and Allison, I hope you cherish these images from this season being engaged! It’s so fleeting and very special. I am counting down the days with you to your wedding day!

Every detail of the Madelyn Tenney Events Spring Design Showcase 2025 was pure magic. As an Atlanta wedding photographer, I had the joy of being invited to capture not only the beautifully curated spaces but also the intimate behind-the-scenes moments that made this spring showcase possible. From lush florals to elegant table settings, the event was a treasure trove of spring wedding inspiration for brides dreaming up their perfect day.

Hosted at Nova Studio in the heart of Atlanta, this carefully crafted experience was designed to set the tone for the upcoming wedding season—and it did not disappoint.

Spring Wedding Inspiration for Modern Southern Brides

The design vision for the showcase–Prima Flora–embraced soft pastels, delicate textures, and fresh seasonal styling. Think romantic blush tones, textured linens, and floral-forward installations. Madelyn and her talented team created a setting that felt simultaneously elevated and welcoming. It was truly a perfect exhibition of what sophisticated spring weddings can be in Georgia.

As I arrived early to document the event setup, I was able to photograph the team in their element: adjusting linens, styling stationery, and rehearsing the layout one last time. These behind-the-scenes moments revealed just how much heart went into this event. It’s easy to see why so many brides trust Madelyn Tenney Events to bring their dream weddings to life.

Behind the Scenes with Madelyn Tenney Events

Before the doors opened, I had the privilege of capturing team headshots for the women behind Madelyn Tenney Events. Their energy, collaboration, and vision made it clear this wasn’t just a design showcase—it was a heartfelt celebration of creativity and community.

The environment was buzzing with excitement as florists arranged final stems and vendors fluffed the final cushions. The team’s chemistry was undeniable, and it translated directly into the seamless flow of the event itself.

The Madelyn Tenney Events Spring Design Showcase

At the heart of the showcase were the intentional design vignettes. Each space told a story, offering spring wedding inspiration tailored for modern Southern brides. One standout element was a centerpiece floral installation by Marigo Flowers, assisted by Pollen Floral Company. It floated above a table layered with blush-toned linens from BBJ La Tavola, catching the light beautifully throughout the afternoon.

An eye-catching ice sculpture by Ice Sculpture Inc. ATL added a playful, elevated touch to the scene, while live entertainment from Jewel the Ballerina captivated attendees with ethereal movement, bringing life to the experience. Glasswing Rentals curated tableware that sparkled under the natural light of Nova Studio, and JC Rental Collective and Party Bound contributed pieces that gave each setup personality and polish.
