John and Lindsey’s modern Main Street Station wedding was probably the most “Richmond” event I’ve had the pleasure of capturing. I served as Stacie Marshall’s second shooter (Marshall Arts Photography). I spent a lot of time with John and his groomsmen in the beginning of the day. These guys had GREAT posing skills! John in particular was so easy to work with, making me feel like a GQ photographer.
Their wedding began at the Omni Hotel, where both bride and groom got ready. The crisp white marble walls and high glass ceilings were beautiful. And Main Street Station was so close by. If you’re looking for a luxury hotel venue, definitely consider the Omni Hotel in Richmond, VA!
After John was dressed, we took him to nearby brick-lined streets for his Groom portraits. Like I mentioned before, John was a natural on camera! His satin-lapeled tuxedo popped in photos against the classic industrial feel that Richmond had to offer. And after a few minutes of portraits, we sent him to Main Street Station to wait for the ceremony.
Lindsey had her portraits taken by Stacie in the lobby of the Omni Hotel. However, if you want portraits here for your own wedding day, be sure to stay on the Omni side! A security guard politely asked us to move. So we had to make a quick location swap. After that, we all headed to Main Street Station to capture ceremony details and reception details.
John and Lindsey’s wedding was so beautifully set up! Main Street Station provided a timeless, urban venue for their modern, special day. They decorated the space with simple ivory, lilac, and blue floral arrangements. The soft greenery softened Main Street Stations heavy architecture.
The most interesting part of this wedding venue is that it is an active train station! Originally built in 1901, the station feels like a perfect replica of Edwardian Era luxury. Leading to the ceremony, passengers awaited their trains in the main station area behind the reception hall.
During the wedding ceremony, the large arched windows cast a soft glow on the happy couple. I could see John’s nerves melt away as his beautiful bride approached down the aisle. Many beautiful words were said. And even after John’s Best Man accidentally dropped the rings (laughter ensued), they said “I do” to their forever.
We whisked the newlyweds away for their Family Formal photos and bridal party photos. I found a great spot in the balcony for John’s Groomsmen portraits. Then we captured John and Lindsey’s “just married” portraits. The iconic architecture in front of Main Street Station was an epic backdrop. Lindsey looked like a classic beauty against the sandy brick building. And John looked so blissfully happy!
That’s why I LOVE taking portraits right after the ceremony. The joy is so prominent on the bride and groom’s face. Nerves are gone and excitement for the reception is building. After their newlywed portraits, we released John and Lindsey to their reception. The ceremony space was cleared for a large dance floor. After bursting up the stairwell, they shared a sweet First Dance as husband and wife.
Celebrations continued with a teary-eyed Father of the Bride speech and moving parent dances. And soon enough, the night turned into a boisterous party!
