The Rectory + Hotel Indigo Wedding // Old Town Alexandria Wedding Photographer

Old Town Alexandria wedding days hold a special place in my heart. I am very proud to call myself an Alexandria Wedding photographer. This historic town has it all – from cobble stone streets to colorful row houses. It’s the perfect romantic location to say “I do!”

I had the honor of capturing Caroline and Sean’s wedding day as a second shooter last year. Their wedding was like a tour of Old Town Alexandria! The day started at the bride’s suite at the Hotel Indigo on S Union Street, then continued for the Ceremony at The Rectory on Princess Street. Using a darling street car, the wedding party met us at The Rectory for Caroline and Sean’s vows. This brick-laid historic building and outdoor garden ceremony space made for a charming contrast to Hotel Indigo’s modern, riverside aesthetic.

A Wedding Ceremony at The Rectory on Princess Street

The Rectory on Princess Street is an elegant, historic home venue that makes for a perfect setting for smaller or intimate events. Their packages range from elopement style to full wedding packages for up to 50 guests. This makes it a great spot to go all out for a dreamy wedding day surrounded by your closest friends and family. For any history buff brides and grooms, you’ll be pleased to learn this 1785 building stays true to its Colonial roots both inside and out, making it a charming spot for romantic wedding day portraits or a great location for Groom’s Getting Ready documentation.

The gardens behind the house are private and beautifully maintained, surrounded by the white washed brick walls and manicured boxwoods. Just a short walk from Captains Row and just blocks from popular King Street attractions, The Rectory gives a true taste of an Old Town Alexandria Wedding.

I will always be in love with the darling little iron stars on the side of the buildings in Old Town Alexandria. Such a tiny but very Virginian detail that I had to capture!!

Where to Take Wedding Portraits in Old Town Alexandria

Old Town Alexandria weddings offer so much variety for wedding portraits. Brides and grooms have options on brick or cobblestone paths and streets, historic and colorful homes, waterfront views, urban crosswalks, or hidden gardens. No matter where your venue is in Old Town, some of my favorite spots to take a newlywed couple include:

  • Carlyle House and its garden behind it (N Fairfax St)
  • Captain’s Row (S Lee St)
  • Wales Alley (Prince St)
  • Shipyard Park (near Wolfe St)
  • Founders Park and Old Town Alexandria Harbor (accessible anywhere between Queen and Oronoco St)

Here are some of the portraits we took before the reception at Hotel Indigo, mainly on Princess Street just a block from The Rectory!

And then back to The Rectory for bridal party portraits!!

Hotel Indigo Wedding Reception

After getting copious amounts of newlywed portraits and bridal party portraits, we headed back to Hotel Indigo to get the party started for Caroline and Sean’s reception. Their guests were already there, mingling over the open bar and signing their guestbook. Just before introductions, I did happen to catch a glimpse at the newlyweds stealing a cuddly moment in the lobby over a drink before they entered to greet their guests – HOW SWEET!!

After that, it was party time! The Hotel Indigo was a modern contrast to The Rectory’s historic aesthetic. The lobby was a refreshing waterfront feel, and the reception was held mainly at The Hummingbird restaurant inside the hotel. The restaurant includes an outdoor patio with an alleyway that led straight to the pier on the Potomac river.

My mom has always told me that if I ever wanted an intimate wedding reception, we would go through with the ceremony with 15-20 of our closest friends and family then book out a restaurant to enjoy the rest of the evening. Well, that’s sort of what it felt like at Caroline and Sean’s wedding – the entire Hummingbird restaurant was theirs to host their guests, and everyone danced through the night on the outside patio. It was so warm and perfect. And of course we snuck them away for a few waterfront photos…

This moment hit me different – how sweet to have a special dance with your Grandpa!!

Every detail of the Madelyn Tenney Events Spring Design Showcase 2025 was pure magic. As an Atlanta wedding photographer, I had the joy of being invited to capture not only the beautifully curated spaces but also the intimate behind-the-scenes moments that made this spring showcase possible. From lush florals to elegant table settings, the event was a treasure trove of spring wedding inspiration for brides dreaming up their perfect day.

Hosted at Nova Studio in the heart of Atlanta, this carefully crafted experience was designed to set the tone for the upcoming wedding season—and it did not disappoint.

Spring Wedding Inspiration for Modern Southern Brides

The design vision for the showcase–Prima Flora–embraced soft pastels, delicate textures, and fresh seasonal styling. Think romantic blush tones, textured linens, and floral-forward installations. Madelyn and her talented team created a setting that felt simultaneously elevated and welcoming. It was truly a perfect exhibition of what sophisticated spring weddings can be in Georgia.

As I arrived early to document the event setup, I was able to photograph the team in their element: adjusting linens, styling stationery, and rehearsing the layout one last time. These behind-the-scenes moments revealed just how much heart went into this event. It’s easy to see why so many brides trust Madelyn Tenney Events to bring their dream weddings to life.

Behind the Scenes with Madelyn Tenney Events

Before the doors opened, I had the privilege of capturing team headshots for the women behind Madelyn Tenney Events. Their energy, collaboration, and vision made it clear this wasn’t just a design showcase—it was a heartfelt celebration of creativity and community.

The environment was buzzing with excitement as florists arranged final stems and vendors fluffed the final cushions. The team’s chemistry was undeniable, and it translated directly into the seamless flow of the event itself.

The Madelyn Tenney Events Spring Design Showcase

At the heart of the showcase were the intentional design vignettes. Each space told a story, offering spring wedding inspiration tailored for modern Southern brides. One standout element was a centerpiece floral installation by Marigo Flowers, assisted by Pollen Floral Company. It floated above a table layered with blush-toned linens from BBJ La Tavola, catching the light beautifully throughout the afternoon.

An eye-catching ice sculpture by Ice Sculpture Inc. ATL added a playful, elevated touch to the scene, while live entertainment from Jewel the Ballerina captivated attendees with ethereal movement, bringing life to the experience. Glasswing Rentals curated tableware that sparkled under the natural light of Nova Studio, and JC Rental Collective and Party Bound contributed pieces that gave each setup personality and polish.

Why This Event Matters for Atlanta Brides

If you’re a bride planning a wedding in Atlanta, Savannah, or North Georgia looking for fresh spring wedding inspiration, events like this one are invaluable. They don’t just showcase trends—they display the talent of local, trustworthy vendors who are passionate about what they do.

Every vendor at this showcase brought their A-game. Seeing each one’s work in person—and getting to document it as a film-inspired wedding photographer—was such an honor.

What I Loved Most as an Atlanta Wedding Photographer

Photographing this spring wedding inspiration at Nova Studio was a dream. The soft filtered light made the colors pop in a way that felt timeless and true-to-color. My goal is always to deliver film-inspired wedding photos that feel both editorial and authentic. The setting created by Madelyn Tenney Events was ideal for that.

Being trusted to document the designs and the passion behind them—team portraits, set-up, genuine laughter—reminds me why I love this work. These are the moments that couples don’t always see. These are the images that reveal the effort, energy, and heart poured into a couple’s day long before they say I do.
